Tasso Home Collection Kit

How to collect blood with the Tasso device

The Tasso device is a small, single-use kit that collects a blood sample from your upper arm without a needle in your vein. A gentle button-press opens tiny channels just under the skin, and the sample is drawn into a collection tube. It takes a few minutes at home - no clinic visit, no phlebotomist. Follow the four steps below to collect your sample correctly.

  1. Attaching the green collection tube to the Tasso device
    1

    Attach the collection tube

Take the green-capped collection tube from your kit and attach it to the base of the Tasso device until it clicks into place.

  2. Pressing the button to activate the Tasso device on the upper shoulder
    2

Place on your shoulder and activate

Press the device firmly onto your clean, dry upper shoulder so it sticks, then press the red button to begin collection. Keep it in place and let the tube fill.

  3. Collection tube filled to above the 400 mark
    3

Check the blood level, then remove the tube

The blood level must reach at least another 200 above the 400 mark on the tube - fill close to the top, but do not overfill. Once there is enough blood, remove the collection tube from the device.

  4. Closing the tube, gently shaking it, and sealing it in the biohazard bag
    4

Close, shake and prepare for return

Close the green cap securely and shake the tube gently to mix. Complete the label, seal the tube inside the biohazard bag, and return it using the prepaid packaging in your kit. Don't forget to include your completed test requisition form in the box.

Post it back any day of the week. Your results take the same time as with our other collection methods - the Tasso kit is simply another way to give your sample at home.

Please note: the Tasso blood collection device may very rarely leave a permanent mark of approximately 2 mm on the shoulder. Although the mark is usually barely visible, please consider this before selecting this blood collection option.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How much does Prostate Cancer Risk genetic screening cost?

Prostate Cancer Risk starts at £660. The price includes a pre-test consultation with our genetic counsellor, the at-home oral swab kit, lab analysis at our partner laboratory, and a clinical-grade report shared in a follow-up consultation. A blood sample (the Tasso home kit, an in-clinic draw or a home nurse visit) costs extra: the add-on price is shown when you choose how to give your sample.

Who should consider prostate cancer risk?

Prostate Cancer Risk is most useful for people with a personal or family history of prostate cancer, those of higher-risk ancestry (e.g. Ashkenazi Jewish for BRCA1/2), or anyone wanting to understand their inherited risk for proactive screening and lifestyle decisions. It tests for inherited risk only: it cannot tell you whether you have cancer now.

Which genes are tested?

Prostate Cancer Risk Screening tests 13 genes: ATM, BRCA1, BRCA2, CHEK2, EPCAM, HOXB13, MLH1, MSH2, MSH6, NBN, PALB2, PMS2, TP53. It is a fixed panel chosen for hereditary prostate cancer, so it does not cover every gene linked to cancer, and it may not detect every type of variant. A negative result does not rule out an inherited cause of cancer, and it does not mean you will not develop cancer. Your genetic counsellor can talk through the panel with you before you decide to test.

How are results delivered?

Reports take 17-21 working days from sample receipt. Each is reviewed by your genetic counsellor and shared with you securely. If a pathogenic variant is found we'll book a follow-up consultation to discuss surveillance, prevention, and onward referral options. Results can also include variants of uncertain significance, which are not a diagnosis and need careful interpretation.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. Anyone aged 18+ can book Prostate Cancer Risk Screening directly with Jeen Health. Your kit is sent by next-day delivery once your included pre-test consultation with our genetic counsellor has taken place and your test choice is confirmed.

What are the limits of this test?

Prostate Cancer Risk Screening is a screening test for inherited risk, not a diagnosis, and it cannot tell you whether you have cancer now. It reports changes in the 13 genes listed on this page and may not detect every type of variant. A negative result does not rule out an inherited cause of cancer, and a positive result means a higher risk, not that you will develop cancer. Results can include variants of uncertain significance. Please keep taking up NHS screening invitations, and see your GP promptly about any symptoms.
